Top Billing: How Parents Should Be “Billed” In Your Invites

by mia bolaris-forget (Staff Writer NYCityWeddings)

Just because we may deeply LOVE and ADORE the man we are about to marry, that doesn’t always or necessarily mean we have to or “do” feel the same way about his family. And, if they are not helping foot the wedding finances, you may find yourself inclined to, at least, consider, omitting their names from the invite. While I personally would “tread lightly”, remember, they are going to be “family” soon, the rules reveal that the only time HIS parents have to be mentioned on the invitations if they are helping you pay for the event.

However, if your folks are the only ones making a monetary contribution, you may want to mention your in-laws just below the name of your future husband. For example: at the marriage of Jane Doe to John Smith, son of Jerry and Carol Smith.

However, remember to check with moms and dads before finalizing your invites and sending them off to the printer, giving them a chance to see if and how they will be billed.
