New York Wedding Story #250
Submitted by Linda, West Sayville, New York Engaged November 22, 2006 Wedding On June 28, 2008
I completely had my dream proposal thanks to the man who is everything and more that i wanted!
On Wednesday, November 22, 2006, Joe and I went to Bryant Park which is located in Manhattan directly behind the Manhattan Public Library (Little did I know that this was going to be the most special day in my life!!). We went to go ice skating with the Rangers. Joe worked the overnight shift the night before, got home, showered and picked me up (he never went to sleep!). We drove into the city and hit no traffic. We arrived at Bryant Park at 2:00 and the Rangers were not arriving until 4:00 so we decided to go Ice Skating. Joe was holding our huge bag to check and he couldn't seem to get the receipt for the bag out of his pocket. So I went to reach in to get it and he dropped the bag and slapped my hand away. I just looked at him like he was nuts and he apologized saying, "Lin, I’m sorry I’m jumpy...I’m just tired." Little did I know that he transferred the ring from its box, into a velvet pouch that was now in his pocket. We went ice skating and had the most amazing time. The Rangers came and we ice skated with them until 6:00 when they left. We hung out for another half hour and then we decided to start heading home. Joe went into the bathroom and while he was in there, I called my house. When Joe came out of the bathroom he nearly died because he saw me on the phone and thought my mom would have answered by saying "CONGRATULATIONS!!!"--luckily she didn't. Little did I know he was transferring the ring from the velvet pouch back into the ring box. As we were leaving the ice skating rink, I began to thank Joe for an amazing day when it began to snow. So as it was snowing I said to him, I couldn't imagine a more perfect and romantic day, and that this was by far the best day we have had together. I even said that it couldn't get any more perfect....and then he used that as his cue. He started asking me questions such as "Do you love me? Can you see yourself loving me forever? Can you see yourself spending the rest of your life with me?" I was so clueless that I didn't even catch on at this point. I simply replied yes to all of the questions. Then he took both of my hands and started saying the most beautiful words I’ve ever heard in my life....And then it happened. He got down on one knee, took my left hand and said, "Lin will you marry me?" Unfortunately I thought he was joking and said "What are you doing? No this isn't happening? Are you serious? Are you sure? Is this really happening?" I don't think that was the reaction he was thinking i would have so he said, "Well what do you say?" To which of course I said "YES!!!!!!!" And then I started crying and he was teared up with his poor hands shaking in nervousness. I think we hugged for 10 minutes. The freaking out continued when I called my mom and screamed, "YOU KNEW?!?!" To which she screamed "CONGRATULATIONS!!!" That night we went back to my house and my parents were there with champagne, a cake, and an engagement journal. My sister Lucille and brother-in-law Rob were there with my nephews and gifts for us as well, such as an engagement picture frame. My sister-in-law Dina was there with an engagement scrapbook. My sister Jenn was there with wedding magazines and an engagement ornament for us. Then we went to Joe's grandmother's house (Nana Mar) to see Mom Capozzoli. We couldn't wait to see her!! Everyone was so happy and so excited that night as we called all of our relatives and friends. It was the perfect proposal!!!!!!
When Joe told me the story about choosing my ring, the significance made me feel even more special. He picked everything out all on his own and actually designed my engagement ring and wedding band. He has great taste in jewelry :-)
