Re: Bora Bora Thread

We went to Moorea and Bora Bora on our honeymoon and then went back to another island a different time! It was really hard to choose a place to stay and I got pretty overwhelmed so we ended up using a south pacific specialist travel agent to book our trip. It was great to talk to someone who has been there alot and knows the resorts. She has some websites with her pics and tells about the places too. Anyway, send me a message if you want her contact info. and the web info She didn't charge a fee either... It was great to stop banging my head on the wall ;)
cheers!

For those of you who have made the trip to Bora Bora, how much did you spend on extra's like tours, etc.?

Can't remember exactly what we spent on tours but we did a few. The shark and ray feeding was our favorite! Really great! + they take you snorkeling too. I think it was around $120 per person. Most of the excursions were about that much. The private motu picnic was realllly expensive though. Around $700. So we just did the more affordable things. We swam and snorkeled alot at the resort too. We thought just being on the deck overwater was perfect (and free!)
cheers!

Re: Bora Bora Thread

Hi Ladies, I just got back from my honeymoon and we stayed at the following places

Radisson in Tahiti (2 nights)- was not impressed at all. If we had the chance to do it all over again we would have stayed in Tahiti one night (just to sleep since we were traveling for 25 hours)and then go directly to your island of choice. If you go to Morrea you can take a 20 minute ferry from Tahiti.

The Pearl in Moorea (4 nights)- we had a over the water premium bungalow which was VERY nice. This hotel has a great pool. They gave us bottle of champagne to congratulate us which we loved because EVERYONE is on there honeymoon in moorea and bora bora so you don't really get any special perks for being newlyweds. I really liked Moorea...i Thought it was so nice and CLEAN. I actually thought it was cleaner then bora bora as far as how the locals live.

Sofitel Motu in Bora Bora (6 nights): We stayed in an over the water premium bungalow and it was stunning! Sofitel Motu is its own little island on a motu. I didn't think anything could surpass the Pearl in Moorea but this place did. It was really really nice. BUT QUIET!!! There was about 10 people at the hotel at a time and no access to food unless you took the 4 minute boat ride across to the island. We had access to the main Sofitel Beach Resort which was a 4 minute boat ride as well.

If you do go to any of these places, my suggestion is you go to the market to buy cereal, snack and peanut butter and jelly to stock up in your room or else you truly will be spending a small fortune on food daily. We also bought wine, champagne, cheese and crackers at the food store so that we could enjoy some drinks on our deck after we were done with dinner. We didn't eat at any of the hotels. We ate at the local restaurants which were great. In bora bora we LOVED La Bounty for lunch and dinner..and Bloody marys for dinner.

As other posters said...there is not much to do on these island. Which to me...after all the wedding planning, was a blessing! Nothing to do but, eat, drink, soak in the sun, read a book...and do some excursions. Hope this helps. Please FM me with questions

Moorea Pearl - It's close to everything and it's beautiful!

Four Seasons Bora Bora - Fairly new resort but you will not regret the splurge. The Overwater bungalows are AMAZING!!!!!!!!

Feel free to FM and check out my pics!

Re: Bora Bora Thread

Yea!! A Bora Bora thread! We are finalizing our plans in the near future...looks like Bora Bora (Pearl Resort), Over Water Bungalo for seven days and Tikehau (also Pearl) beach bungalo, for three days.

FH has been talking about going to the South Pacific since I met him. He actually would love to do Fiji or Aitutaki in the Cook Islands, but I like Tahiti the best.

Re: Bora Bora Thread

im so happy this thread exists! haha I have been researching honeymoon spots and bora bora is on my list of places. along with a bunch of islands in the indian ocean and the cook islands.

i have a question, because this just came up this weekend between FH and i.

Did/is anyone flying first class?? and how much extra is it?? and is it worth it?

I feel like it is because you are on a plane for so long that sitting coach can be uncomfortable.
FH doesnt want to spend the money, which is totally understandable.

any thoughts?

Re: Bora Bora Thread

We are flying regular! Unfortunately!

However FH is very tall.. he is about 6ft 6in so whenever we fly I ask for a seat near the emergency exit because they usually have a little extra room in those seats!

I am curious about the price difference for 1st class though. I think FH mentioned it too.

Re: Bora Bora Thread

First class and even business class are very expensive. But, FH and I have AA miles that transfer to Air Tahiti, so we are probably going to buy the additional miles we need and fly business class. I've done this before when I went to Japan - 14 hours direct; 17 indirect and it was WELL worth the effort.

I am not sure to be honest. I've used several different frequent flyer programs and I've found AA to be the best, so I use them. Air Tahiti is party of One World as you mentioned. Would it be possible to change dates at all? Or try one day off from when you originally wanted to leave and come back?
